Edith Marie Gordon, 106 ¾, of Homer, passed away Friday, June 26, 2026 at the home of her son in Danville.
A private graveside service will be held at Mt. Olive Cemetery in Mayview. Edith’s son, Pastor Raymie Gordon will officiate. There will be no public visitation. Homer Funeral and Cremation Services is handling the arrangements.
Edith was born September 14, 1919, the daughter of Frank Smith Sr. and Isabelle (Belle) Lang Smith. She married the love of her life, Warren R. Gordon, on June 30, 1945 in Homer. He preceded her in death on March 20, 2020. They were married almost 75 years at the time of his passing.
Survivors include son, Raymie (Robin) Gordon of Danville; daughter, Marsha (John) Ketchen of Knoxville, TN; son, Dan (Carol) Gordon of Homer; daughter, Sharon (Chuck) Alt of Homer; 6 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Frank Smith Jr. and Clarence Smith and her sister, Annabelle Phillips.
Edith was a long time member of the Homer Church of Christ. She was a graduate of Homer High School in 1937. Edith was employed as a seamstress at Collegiate Cap & Gown. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, and spending time with her family. Edith and Warren had the distinction of being Homer’s oldest and longest residents.
Memorials can be made to Homer Fire Department, United Congregational Church of Homer, or Johnson University.
