Robert V. Place

Robert Vernon Place, 56, formerly of Danville and Homer, passed away unexpectedly on June 11, 2026 in Clinton, IN.

Robert was born November 20, 1969 in Danville, the son of Henry and Sherry Gordon Place. He married the love of his life, Stephanie Spies, on October 31, 2004, because on what other day than Halloween would a funeral director and a vault guy who met at a cemetery get married! She survives in Homer. Although their marriage ended, they remained on good terms.

He is also survived by his greatest accomplishment and source of pride, his sons, Cody (Courtney) Frahm of Danville and Timothy “TJ” Place of Danville; 3 granddaughters, Olivia Place, Addyson Place and Aspen Frahm; 3 grandsons, Branson Frahm, Conner Place and Colton Place; sister, Laura Place; brother, Travis Place; longtime friend, Todd Moore; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry passing in 2016 and Sherry passing in 2020; his brother, Tim Place; uncle, Chester Place in 2003; aunt, Inez Wishard in 2023; and his beloved dogs Raven and Phantom along with many other furry friends.

Bob was an over the road truck driver the last few years of his life. He worked at Kelley Wilbert Vault in Danville for many years, Bush Brothers, Altamont, Ogden Metalworks, and Rick’s Tractor Service in Ogden. He had a background in construction and could build just about anything. From concrete to shingles and electrical and plumbing, he could do it all! He was a jack of all trades and a master of many! Those skills came in handy when he moved into the old Clouse homestead in rural Homer and built the workshop and fixed up the house. Bob was also an accomplished woodworker, from decorative boxes to tables and everything in between, he made beautiful wooden items. He took pride in his workmanship and always strived to do his very best.

Bob loved to go fishing and camping and take the canoe out when the boys were younger, often going on weekend trips from Homer to Danville. He was an avid motorcycle rider, from his vintage Honda Goldwing to his newer Honda VTX 1800. He served his country in the Army National Guard but distanced himself from all things government. He was not afraid of hard work and he played just as hard. Bob loved being outdoors and working on projects, whether it be building an arbor or installing a deck on the house. He liked his coffee black as tar and you could often find him with a Budweiser and always a Marlboro in hand.

Cremation rites have been accorded. A celebration of life will be held at Miller Park, 2705 W. Milwaukee Street in St. Bernice/Clinton, IN on June 21st at 1pm ET.
